Solar Installers

Dear TD, We are a small solar installation company employing 10 people. One of the limitations we see on a regular basis is customers with large roof space but low electricity load. Private Wires would be a great option for cases like this and allow customers to sell power to adjoining businesses. We would also like the opportunity to set up larger shared solar / battery systems that will supply a number of homes. This would reduce everybody's cost (shared equipment) and give a high degree of resilience in case of a grid outage. Barry Heneghan's Private Members' Bill on Private Wires is good. https://data.oireachtas.ie/ie/oireachtas/bill/2026/68/eng/initiated/b6826d.pdf This bill cleanly implements the EU Electricity Directive (EU) 2019/944 which creates a fair, transparent, and consumer-focused electricity market. Article 7 of this bill mandates member states to authorise "direct lines" or private wires, allowing generators to supply electricity directly to consumers while bypassing the public grid. The Government Scheme for private wires in contrast is less fully developed, and by outlining 4 limited circumstances where private wires would be allowed appears to fall foul of the following "Those criteria shall be objective and non-discriminatory." within EU directive 2019/944. This will likely introduce years of further delays. We would be obliged if you could give this bill your full support during its upcoming second reading. This will result in more jobs and less fossil fuel imports. Yours sincerely, [Your name] [Your company]

Dear TD, Our company is responsible for delivering thousands of homes per year in the Republic of Ireland. One of the common roadblocks we regularly encounter is the delay in getting an electrical grid connection. Barry Heneghan's Private Members' Bill on Private Wires is one way that we could get homes built and filled faster. A solar / battery system backed up with an HVO generator will give homeowners power while ESB Networks builds out grid infrastructure. Any arrangement could be managed like a district heating scheme, many of which are running successfully around Ireland. This bill cleanly implements the EU Electricity Directive (EU) 2019/944 which creates a fair, transparent, and consumer-focused electricity market. Indeed, article 7 of this bill mandates member states to authorise "direct lines" or private wires, allowing generators to supply electricity directly to consumers while bypassing the public grid. This will result in faster house and apartment completions. Yours sincerely, [Your name] [Your company]

Dear TD, We are writing to show our support for the Barry Heneghan Private Members' Bill on Private Wires. https://data.oireachtas.ie/ie/oireachtas/bill/2026/68/eng/initiated/b6826d.pdf This bill cleanly implements the EU Electricity Directive (EU) 2019/944 which creates a fair, transparent, and consumer-focused electricity market. This will introduce years of further delays. Private wires would be very useful for our business for the following reasons. We have room on our roofs for substantially more solar panels than our internal load can support. We would like the opportunity to provide solar power to our retail tenants and help reduce their costs. This would result in our building making substantial progress towards net zero, and indeed become a central part of our ISO 50001 and ISO 50100 energy management journey. This in turn unlocks lower cost finance which means the building is in a much better position to re-invest and upgrade the facility, which will also result in more jobs. We would be obliged if you could give this bill your full support during its second reading. Yours sincerely, [Your name] [Your company]
